Versace for H&M Bomber Jacket

At the moment I'm half-heartedly entertaining the idea of buying a Versace for H&M silk bomber jacket. What I really want is a cosy bomber jacket to keep out the cold as Autumn and Winter will approach for university and maybe something else to wear when I finish refereeing on a Friday night. I love the golden frame at the centre of this women's jacket and the tropical island tableau as seen above but the neon blue and green as well as leopard print is slightly intimidating.

The jacket has been worn by the likes of Nicki Minaj  and I would like to distance myself from that pop star as much as possible but at the same time I'd like to own a small piece of this momentous collaboration. It's difficult enough to get my hands on original vintage Versace from the 90s, so why not strike while the iron is still hot and there's plenty of jackets to be had? I love the combination of Abbey Lee Kershaw's platinum hair as well as the bright blues and greens of both the dress and jacket seen above but the leopard print in this fashion is just too bold for me- years ago at the age of fourteen I would have loved the Nu Wave style of this jacket but now I'm more of a romantic. I must have read too much Dorian Gray and John Keats in literature.

I'll probably end up getting a vintage silk jacket from Etsy which won't cost me hundreds of dollars- once I earn enough money that is and I also secure myself a pink Yves Saint Laurent ring which I have been practically dying to get my hands on.

Versace: 90s Butterfly Jeans

I'm not too sure what it is, whether I am reverting back to what some may argue to be somewhat primitive grunge and 90s style but when I first saw this jeans for sale on Claire Inc, an Australian site I first came across after searching a few different links on eBay. Claire Inc are a company that sell the best quality vintage finds that are available for famous brands, eg. Chanel, Cacharel, Sonia Rykiel, Karl Lagerfeld, etc. They do favour some brands more than others but I think my heart just may have stopped when I spotted these gorgeous white Gianni Versace jeans with the butterfly print. The bright colours that maintain a lot of their integrity after a decade of being washed and the strong design is just so good. I wish I had been born in the 80s and had lived my teenage years throughout the 90s. I look over my simplistic child guides to photography in which the styling and clothing everyone wears from that era is just so humorous to someone who has only ever known the time period I love in.

My love for the butterfly jeans was rebuked upon spotting a similar pair, size 6 (hence why I couldn't buy them apart from not having the funds available) in green with striking orange and yellow. For some reason I really like the way the butterflies down the middle of the crotch seem split down the middle to either leg. It's really eye catching and sweet without drawing too much attention to that area. I love symmetrical things so that may be why they speak to me on such a level. The top worn with statement jeans such as this has to be minimal but I don't really like the black sheer top the green/orange/yellow jeans are worn with. I think it would be better to find a black t shirt with a worn loose look to it to really emphasise the grunge 90s style. Or wear a shirt in the same shade as the jeans, predominantly green. The smaller size six pair in green sold for $170 whereas the larger size of the white butterfly jeans from Claire Inc sold for $340 I believe. While it is better to buy a pair of jeans that actually fit you, that is a marginal mark up.

The good thing about vintage is that it does make brands such as Chanel and Versace more affordable and the items are usually in good quality but there are poachers out there that will snatch up all the good vintage pieces before the rest of us can even find them. That, and we are also stuck with all the dud vintage pieces that don't seem to classify as cool. Although vintage reselling is a cool concept in terms of recycling and reusing etc. I don't want to pay horrible mark ups for rad pieces when all I need to do is search hard and quickly before anyone else can!

Lady Gaga is having a serious Versace Moment. In fact, she declared in a recent interview that she will only be wearing Versace for the next 2 months (Do I smell an Advertising Contract in her future?!).

But...not only is she wearing Versace, but she is mainly wearing Vintage Gianni Versace (after his death in 1997 the House began to use only the name Versace). And for me, that is absolutely GENIUS!

I have always been a huge fan of Versace and when I was studying Fashion at FIDM, Gianni Versace was my idol. Ironically, Lady Gaga has been wearing outfits mainly from the Fall/Winter and Spring 1991 Atelier Versace Collections and this is just a few seasons before I started creating my "Versace Archives" of magazines and books, so sadly I didn't have as many direct references as I thought.

But, below are some of the outfits she has been wearing and a look back at a few of the original pieces.

Lady Gaga wore this Pop Art inspired ensemble to receive her MuchMusic Award. It is from the Gianni Versace Fall/Winter 1991 Collection, and although that is not the actual top seen on the right on the fab Linda Evangelista, it is similar.

For her appearance on the French TV Show Taratatà, Lady Gaga wore a Silk Printed blouse from the Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 1992 Collection. I love that in my Vintage Catalog, I came across an image of former Supermodel and now First Lady of France Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wearing a very similar version!

Above Gaga collects yet another MuchMusic Award wearing this Vintage Gianni Versace Gown. The Silk Crepe Gown with Buckle Detailing is a beautiful dress and classic Gianni, but it just doesn't work on Gaga. It reminds me of the iconic Elizabeth Hurley dress and that moment is really hard to live up to!

In Lady Gaga's new and VERY 80's inspired music video for her song "Edge of Glory" she is, once again, wearing Versace. I am not sure if it is vintage or Custom Atelier Versace (similar to the performance outfit above at the MuchMusic Video Awards), but either way she looks AMAZING!

Here is Lady Gaga making her arrival at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards. I Absolutely LOVE this photo and this outfit. It is the perfect blend of Gaga and Vintage Versace!
