Bambi

It will be a while before I am actually able to study animals and animal diseased but still I'm looking forward to all the things I have in store this year. After having packed so much study into 2011 it feels weird to sleep in, not have to worry about money so much as well as sleepless nights and no study. The only stimulating things I've tried today are blogging as well as cleaning a little bit of my room and moving a very heavy but small book shelf. I'm not worried about studying symptoms of a sick animal, just making sure that I diagnose them properly and give them the right treatment. Hopefully, if I stay on the right path, it will be years before I have to worry about that though.

I'm really keen to study animal behaviour as well, though they are different there's always some sort of animal hierachy which sort of prooves that it's an intrinsic part of human behaviour as well. All those cliche says 'survival of the fittest' and stuff only reinforces brutish behaviour like bullying and asserting yourself as being better than others. This is why I pretty much believe Communism, while sounding nice on paper can never be properly executed. It's built into our DNA really.

Speaking of animal behaviour, it's always so interesting and fascinating to see unusual pairings of animals that span across genus groups such as this albino rabbit which appears to be grooming this fawn. I could be wrong though, the nose sinked in to the fur above the ear could be biting but the posture is all wrong for the rabbit to be agressive. Besides, the deer seems at ease with his fluffy little friend.

I'm looking forward to travelling overseas in early 2013, maybe I'll be able to happen upon some lovely picturesque deer staring about at the horizon. It will just be nice to be able to see things that are rare and unseen in my country, I feel so tired of everything I know I want things to be different and I'd also like to be comfortable when I sleep at night. These bloody mosquitos are going to be the death of me, and if they aren't then I'll simply drop dead from not enough sleep.

I don't care if it is a domesticated fawn or a cheap plastic lawn ornament, whatever the case whoever managed to get so close to a deer using an analogue camera which vignettes at the corners (most likely a plastic lens and plastic body) camera should be congratulated. Maybe not so much if it is a lawn ornament but it has a furry quality about it so they have found a very good and convincing plastic statue with a cute little fluffy tail.

 

While becoming a veterinarian isn't all about caring for baby animals and will involved tough decisions, nevre-wrakcing surgery as well as heart ache I can look after cute little sweethears such as this baby fawn! I love the tufts on his back as well as speckled pacthes of fur and the extra large ears sitting on his head.

Sretsis: AW12 Oh, My Dear, Deer!

The Melbourne heat wave must be frying my brain- it's not even the middle of Summer yet and I just want to cosy up with some comfy jumpers and be able to go outside without sweet profusely. It's not all doom and gloom- today my 2012 diary arrived today and it's a recycled Little Golden Book, specifically Walt Disney's Bambi! So after roughly flicking through the contents of my new diary, I'm in a deer-loving mood- this tension is only heightened by looking at the Autumn/ Winter collection Sretsis has in store for us this year! After sussing out Wikifashion as well as Maimillia's Sretsis website I found the gorgeous range of clothing- I'm very excited about it all. I first heard about Sretsis after reading about jewellery label Matina Amanita, turns out the two designers are sisters and sometimes collaborate their two brands. I've been a fan of both labels for a while but this deer inspired collection has me particularly excited.

I love thepainterly impression given by this fawn on a jumper with a black background. This year I should have  my mind focused on study, bit I can't help feeling that I should catch up on part-time work to make up for lost years and intense focus towards my VCE. Someone very wise and a little cynical once told that the ATAR score doesn't count for anything, it just gets you into your course. Since I should be safe in getting what I want, I can have more time to earn money and buy lovely clothing! Right now, the Sretsis AW12 collection is available to pre-order and will arrive on your doorsteps in March. At $263 AUD, I wouldn't mind getting this artistic piece for myself.

The collection has a lot of deer themed clothing, from the spotted and speckled jeans to the fawn inspired patterned jackets, dresses and jumpsuits. From their professional photo shoot these two lucky and lovely ladies is my favourite snap- it's overloaded and oozing with deer inspired clothing. I love the casual mai length dress in a light and soft brown colour which features another of the painted fawns- it features a loose fit with sleeves and the hem allows you to float around gently. I'm not sure as to whether I'd be brave enough to tackle a full deer fur inspired dress, but the use of the blazer with thin brown pinstripes on white is a nice touch to tone it down.

The Sretsis Autumn Winter collection combines the best of imaginative prints, luxurious materials and chic, comfy clothing. The deer printed pants and blouse combination would be perfect to hang on to for costume parties when teamed up with a pair of antlers and a little tail- even teaming up the pants with a classic rock band sleeveless shirt, a good leather hang bag and a lot of attitude. As well as clothing Sretsis also dabbles in making gorgeous sunglasses with floral motifs and thick chunky boots. The black ones remind me a little of Jeffrey Campbell boots but the cork effect around the soles allow them to be worn with brown clothes.

Sretsis creator and lead designer Pim Sukhahuta graduated from the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York in 2003 already with a store, two fashion shows, and a covetable internship with Marc Jacobs to her name. Sretsis is a collaboration between Pim and her two sisters, Kly and Matina. In fact, the name Sretsis translates to sisters spelled backwards.

As well as deer inspired clothes, there's a few chich blouses and skirts which feature flowers made of tulle and the collars of their blouses are siply gorgeous. Despite having left high school and seeing the backside of lockers, pencilases and grumpy teachers I can't resist channeling school girl charm with sharp clean blouses such as the new range to be released in March as well as leather satchels. There's a lot of variety to choose from as always and I am definitely going to have some tough decisions ahead of me choosing between denim shorts with deer spots in white, gorgeous floaty dresses as well as artistic prints of  deer in singlets and skirts. Then there's the wooden heeled boots with deer fur patterned, I love them too their so gorgeous. Definitely some of the shoes I'll be pining for in the next season.

Doe a Deer

I've been in a strangely frenzied mood when the sun goes down- I keep trying to find my favourite brands online for as cheap as I possible can and keep on discovering more and more fantastic brands that are suited towards my taste and style. The latest discovery is the deer inspired new range for Sretsis to be launched in March 2012 and this morning I dreamt that I had a little sister and the new range of Deadly Ponies bags had been released.

Since I've been cleaning my room and tidying I may be able to make room enough to decorate my desk and leave room to once again put my books down. Of course, that will mean cleaning under my desk to properly accommodate my office chair and then sorting out the rabble on top. I feel confident though, I've been in good form lately and just needed the bins to be emptied so I can do a little more tomorrow.

On top of looking at all the lovely Sretsis clothes to be coming in a matter of a few months, I'm also itching to get my hands on my 2012 Rebound diary which features Bambi on the front cover. It's a very typical hipster motif, deer, and it's a shame I can't take any photographs of ones in petting zoos or anything else but here I am stuck on the wrong side of the world to get to delight in little wagging tails, speckled fur coats and sallow thin faces. I probably won't use my diary as often as I'd like but it would be nice to be able to write the odd entry or two. I'm expending a lot of energy in writing online though to be able to write by hand as well.

After seeing photographs of a designer for British label 'Lazy Oaf' having her desk completely covered with pug paraphernalia as well as a team member of a vintage/ indie magazine such as Frankie having her desk space covered in Daschunds I have been left feeling inspired to tidy my desk and make it a place where I can happily work away and have my personality reflected. Unfortunately so far a whole shelf has been taken up by some of my cameras and I have yet to properly sort out the paper litter on top. I am determined to go to university this year and not have my room turn into a tip, it's part of my mild resolution for 2012 you see? I am quite happy just to pour my eyes over deer, bucks and doe until I can properly decide what I want.

With prospects of my career leading to animal work, maybe travel across the world will let me work with some of these elegant creatures. I have always wanted to be able to work with North American species such as squirrels and deer- who knows? Maybe I will follow the path and hear the call of duty to mother Earth. After small thought, I have concluded that the most hipster occupation possible would probably by a deer farmer. I wouldn't mind being greeted by a mob this large sitting to hid their long legs, covered in spots as well as black and white tails of the does and antlers of the bucks.

Deer oh Me

In true Hipster tradition I have greedily hoarded away several photographs of deer- this photo set featuring those bucks with antlers. I love the tattoo of the deer surrounded with a wreath but since I'm not vegan (I'm also a chicken) I couldn't possible endure the needle gouging to get something like hits permanently penned into my skin. I do like the sentiment of it though.

I feel really in awe of all the ink on this guy's chest; even with the sub-par picture quality I can see the individual lines of the fur as well as the wood grain effect of the antlers. The shading used on top of the fur lined effect is really something special. If I were to ever consider getting a tattoo it would be something along the lines of this or the first photograph featured in this post since I have a terrible fear of colour in tattoos falling out after hearing an interview with Wade from Alexisonfire and the story of his first tattoo. Listening to that interview really made me realise just how much can go wrong, as well as finding out that Dallas Green likes basketball and makes fun of Adelaide.

I must still have satchels on the brain after writing about the Cambridge Satchel Company but I love the deer detail on this vintage leather carry case. I do hope that the deer in white on the front flap of the bag is part of its actual design and isn't just a sticker- in which case I should hurriedly find and search for cool deer stickers. Seeing photographs like this makes me want to have an explore of big markets in the search for treasure.

This deer inspired mood of mine hasn't come from eyeing and making kissy faces at hat racks or mounted trophies on walls- I must be going through deer and more specifically reindeer withdrawal after Christmas. Every now and then I find as many deer figurines in resin and porcelain as I can possible find on eBay and add them all to my watch list with the intent result of decorating my desk and decking it out in deer memorabilia; though days later I will delete them all, tut and shake my head at myself wondering what was I thinking. I do have it in me to become deer mad and I think it's only a matter of time before it tips the scales. I'm also feverishly awaiting the arrival of my 2012 diary from Rebound Books which features the Little Golden book of Bambi spliced in between my yearly planner.

Other than the ridiculous heat in Summer, I wish I lived elsewhere when I see photographs or squirrels as well as deer and get reminded of the boring wildlife in Australia. Yes, it's exciting when they can only be found native in Australia but when you think of the massive expanse of land there is and that the next country is across the sea  it does make you feel a little less cheery. While Australia has its dingos, koalas, possums and kookaburras I'd need to travel overseas or take a trip to the zoo to see bears, deer, wolves or squirrels. I'm looking forward to my trip to Canada next in early 2013, Mum has already made me save close to $600 so things are looking on track so far.

Inkling & Notions

 

I spotted the brand Inkling and Notions on the Superette website and I fell in love with the sweet shapes of their jewellery- I recently bought a 2012 diary made out a recycled Little Golden Book, Bambi based on the movie so I was thrilled to see deer as well as little bunny rabbits immortalised in silver jewellery for what I assume to be this New Zealand brand. This fawn pendant goes for $459 and features finely detailed and oxidised fur as well as a cute bow. What struck me was the face and detail of the ears, the brand hasn't sugar-coated and enhanced the natural structure of the deer to make it pleasing. The bow detail atop the fawn's head is rose gold, possibly adding to the cost of the pendant but this is solid silver body on the pendant.

 

The detailed silver Bunny Ring by Inklings and Notions has great texture in contrast with a smooth gold bow.

I make no secret of my love for animals, I have owned nine rabbits over eight years and although there are sadly no survivors I still love them very much and sometimes have dreams in which I have rabbits again. This sweet ring features a bunny rabbit crafted true to nature with a triangular nose and face. The bow over the ear reminds me strangely of Minni Mouse. It's rare to see rabbits incorporated into jewellery- let alone to such a high standard and exquisite craftsmanship. I still love the fawn necklace but this rabbit ring with bow is a close second on my wish list.
