Giraffes Literally Heartbroken!

This is a true and sad story about two poor giraffes and people’s cruelty and thoughtlessness. The giraffes were literally heartbroken after some young vandals tresspassed and were demolishing a Polish Zoo at night last weekend. The giraffes, named Hanah and Suri, died of fear, their hearts broke. I haven’t expected such big animals to be so vulnerable. This story moved me so much that I had to share it.

Orange

Orange was my favourite colour when I was a little girl, not even in kindergarten and there's nothing more orange I can think of then the Prada Fur stoles of their 2011 resort collection. I longed to get my filthy hands on one of the imaginative, bright and colourful pieces that reminded me so much of the illustrations for Dr Suess' children's books but the opportunity slipped through my hands. I couldn't find them for sale online anywhere at the time though, there's very little solace found in that minute detail for me because somewhere in the closet of some luckier fashion blogger their hiding in a dry cleaners' bag and waiting to be worn by someone like me.

Orange isn't a colour I frequently wear as part of my everyday wardrobe but it is something I do enjoy looking at after enduring a rather sullen day full of proverbial pit-falls as well as unpleasant verbal exchanges.I certainly could swing for a nice floral blouse in orange, vintage and cheap found from Etsy but I have very little motivation to buy anything at the moment since I have a rather empty looking wallet- fortunately a few eBay listings are coming through and finishing on the weekend and I'll pick up about a hundred dollars in the next two days for work.

I've adored foxes for a while with their contrasting shades of grey, white and black and their orange fur but there is no way that I would wear a real fox fur stole. Online there are a few knitted creations of foxes in yarn to be worn as scarves that I certainly approve of but it is rather difficult to find vintage faux fur in fun colours and shades. I know a good website that sells great vintage pieces at massive spiked mark ups and margins but it seems their fur pieces sell out in seconds, even worse when they're in gorgeously outrageous colours such as blue and green and in faux fur too. There's a monkey fur jacket in deep green at the moment that looks beautiful but I would by wracked with guilt if I wore...

If you ever feel like you live in a dull world savaged by businessmen, grey buildings and the industrious revolution take a look at your local pet shop and try and find some cute little birds with sharp orange beaks that seem to be made of enamel and contrasting peach feathers. Birds are one of my least favourite animals, but even I am willing to acknowledge their cute and lovable nature when their large beady black eyes are shining out at you like that.

I can't imagine myself ever owning a brightly coloured Chanel handbag but I do love the contrast of a hot pink pleated skirt, tied up blouse and the bag all together. There's such a tropical nature about this photograph and the coordination is to die for- it seems that I still have a long way to go as far as styling and dress sense goes but at least I follow some of the best in order to be taught in the noble ways of the fashion blogger.

What better orange idol to follow then the lovely Florence Welch shown performing in one of her dazzling costumes the tassels of her dress thrown around as much as her lovely red hair. I only know of two women that are lovely and eccentric sporting red hair, the first being my favourite singer and the second being a dear friend of mine. Both have been blessed with the skinniest legs you have ever seen, a little unfair considering all the running about I do which has only yielded in strained muscles.

I've always wanted to get a great pair of coloured jeans or something in a bold pattern but never really though of what to style them with; the answer? Why a vintage rock shirt of course, I must be rubbing elbows with my brother a bit too much these days but the simple design of a black band shirt or a white raglan shirt is equally effective. Now if only I can afford to buy a few hundred dollar pair of jeans then we'll be in business any moment now...

There's something that always gets to me when I see a group of models dressed similarly together in the same shade, with the varying shades of lipstick. It's seems like the perfect cult phenomena with the neatly tied ribbons in their hair and the orange icy poles poised at their lips. I wished people like that existed in real life, and perhaps they do but I've just been looking in the wrong places all this time.

Spirit Hoods

Thanks to the lovely people at the Lenko Boutique in Melbourne's Cathedral Arcade, I was able to discover these furry little hooded creations which combine the best of beanies, mittens and scarves all together in unique Spirit Hoods. They've been around since 2009 and already have a small cult following of cute nerdy girls and furries alike as well as many eBay listings and home made look-a-likes riding on the back of their success. I personally love them for their imagination and unique ingenuity but during Summer there's not much of a great and desperate need for them.

There's a whole heap pf colour and fur pattern combinations and inspiration used to create Spirit Hoods, including Husky dogs, owls, tigers and bears to name a few. My best friend would absolutely adore the Spirit Hood shown above; it looks just like her dogs fur but maybe a little more puffier with more hints of tinged black at the end of the fur hairs. Even if you don't use the pockets to keep your hands warm, I bet you could hold train and bus tickets in there as well as spare change, lipstick and pens too.

My favourite of the Spirit Hoods collection? It has to be this lovely bear variation with rounded ears and dark brown fur which matches my own hair colour. I also like the contrasting red tartan pattern on the alternative side of the scarf and just visible on the inside of the ears. I used to have a teddy bear just like that when I was little so there's a little bit of nostalgia about this hood for me. Flannel is such a comfortable material so why not wear this amazing Spirit Hood with a vintage toggle coat in red tartan too? It would certainly make for a quirky outfit when worn about on the streets.

As I kid I thought tigers were the epitome of coolness and I know I would have favoured this hood over the brown bear hood but I like the rounded ears of the bear a little more- and besides, next year I'll be going to Canada and may as well try and fit in with the local fauna while being a bit on the ridiculous side. It would take someone with guts to really wear something like this with confidence, unless of course you're at a fancy dress costume party and you're trying to be on the conservative side.

Maybe it's just the contrast between realistic but faux fur and patterned material that I like; there's also this sweet wolf Spirit Hood featuring rainbow Navajo fabric on the underside and dusty brown tinted fur. You could probably wear something like this to a market; I know I have my eye on the Finders Keepers market on the 20th and lucky for me I've been saving a little money for such an occasion and this bi-annual market may even showcase some of these Spirit Hoods too! Then again, I think I've found the perfect solution to this animal lust...

Differences Between Me and Cool Kids

Since I'm pottering about the house and being anti-social, I'd like to put together some facts about myself and the distinguishing features of cool kids that will lead you, dear reader to come to the conclusion that this is the blog of the lamest person on Earth. For one thing, cool people either host or get invited to costume parties where there are drunken hook-ups and people acting without inhibition and I have never been invited to a costume party (or crashed one) and have never been drunk. I've barely been tipsy when I drink alcohol but that's because I don't really have the intention of making a fool of myself.

Cool people are often skinny and attractive, wear layers of make up to school and not a lot of clothing when they go outside. At the age of about fourteen and fifteen they wore leggings as pants with white socks they wear to school with cheap canvas shoes and mid drift shirts because they have a flat stomach and at the age of about sixteen or even younger they may engage in the activity known as belly button piercing. At the age of eight when I got my ears pierced my mother made me promise never to get any other piercings aside from my ears and since she's the kind of person to hold a grudge for years I am bound to keep my word.

Cool people often can perform amazing feats and tricks when using their mouths and tongues such as tying up long strings of lolly such as snakes into knows, blowing bubbles using bubble gum or chewing gum and are fantastic kissers due to their promiscuity and rebellion against a traditional romantic relationship. I had my first kiss at age sixteen, have only ever had one boyfriend (although to me he is pretty cool, the bees knees as it were) and cannot perform any cool tricks involving my mouth and food. There is the disappearing act in which I swallow, digest and process food but that's nothing too special really.

Through years of breeding with other cool people, a race of super cool people has been perfected in which they are immune to the painful blistering at the back of the heel caused by popular culture combat boots by Dr Martens. The last recorded appearance of my combat boots on my feet was the day was followed by an incredibly painful blister and a few days of limping hap-hazardly around the house.

Many cool people pursue university/ college education in which they will spend three years or so earning a white elephant degree such as an Arts degree or possibly going to art school and living vicariously through selling bad drawings and paintings. While some are educated in practical trades and more complex subjects, some remain to practice the photographic arts and have mastered the use of multiple exposure shoots as well as using fisheye distortion lenses.

Lots of cool people have dogs and or cats that they don't bother to discuss in everyday conversation and they also contribute very little to the quality of life of his/ her pet. There are people like me who have one or even both parents opposed to the possession of an animal fearing they are dirty and flea-ridden or who have had a multitude of rabbits or other small pets in their lifetime. People like me spend their time talking about what their pet rabbit chose to eat on that particular morning as well as ignoring all human life when meeting a four-legged friend at someone else's house.

Dental Health

Dental health has never really been cool, nor has it meant to be cool but after exploring some of my favourite online stores I've found some cute little toothbrush holders such as this panda one from Urban Outfitters, fitted out with suction caps at the back to stick to your nearest bathroom wall and avoid having the bristle head covered in soap. Better yet, you'll know where your toothbrush is and so will everyone else with the bold and cute animal designs.

Not digging Pandas? There's also cartoonish little elephants in baby blue complete with tiny ears and an upturned trunk. Aw, even if it is very cute and a little cheap gift I can get for myself it would be very useless around my house since everyone has electric toothbrushes and the weighty base and handle hides all the gears that make an electronic toothbrush do all the kinetic work for you at the press of a button. Before you gift this to someone, check out what toothbrush they have... as subtly as you can that is. In no way am I telling you to break into your extended family and friends' houses.

For a communal and kitsch way to share your toothbrushes together, there's also these Chinese inspired lucky cat's which come in gold to keep your toothbrushes safe. I'd love to have something like this on my desk and not even bother storing toothbrushes in it, perhaps pens or just have it sitting next to my koala piggy bank which is in mock lucky cat style. I found it under my bed a few days ago and god knows just how long it's been there- I thought I had broken it then had a mental blank but it was just tucked away under something else.

Even the giraffe is really cute- it must be the pot-belly design of their stomach used to keep the toothbrush bristle head safe, the stumpy little arms and bright colour of the plastic as well as the tiny pinhole eyes and horns atop this guys head.

I'm very disappointed by the fact that while I have lost teeth, baby teeth none of them have looked like this. Although when seeing the real thing in person I would probably feel confronted and rather off put by their ugly gnarly appearance. Maybe I'll just surround myself instead with cute little toothbrush holders such as this golden tooth perfectly suited towards the nuclear family of four. Another things dentists don't properly warn you about is that when they remove teeth they smell very bad, must be all the calcium carbonate.

I have my eye on a gorgeous thick rug from Urban Outfitters which features a full moon on a black background; it costs $150 + $15 extra postage and then there's the regular postal fee on top of that but if I ever properly clean my room, sort everything out, get rid of all the dust and weird stuff under my bed and move my drawers and desk over I can clear up a wall for photography and finally set up my tripod for self portrait photographs where you can actually see what I'm wearing. This is also why I'm lusting over a second hand Canon 550D so I can see in the flip screen what the photograph is framing up to look like. The point of that rather long ramble was the fact that if I did order my moon rug I'd also buy myself some monkey floss.

Monkey floss is not a type of string that you use to clean between the crevices on your monkey, it is in fact twenty-five metres of banana flavoured tooth floss that is an online exclusive, at a price of just $6 I certainly would be a little more motivated to take care of my teeth. As an added bonus this product is recommended by money dentists.... if such a thing exists out there in the real world.

Bambi

It will be a while before I am actually able to study animals and animal diseased but still I'm looking forward to all the things I have in store this year. After having packed so much study into 2011 it feels weird to sleep in, not have to worry about money so much as well as sleepless nights and no study. The only stimulating things I've tried today are blogging as well as cleaning a little bit of my room and moving a very heavy but small book shelf. I'm not worried about studying symptoms of a sick animal, just making sure that I diagnose them properly and give them the right treatment. Hopefully, if I stay on the right path, it will be years before I have to worry about that though.

I'm really keen to study animal behaviour as well, though they are different there's always some sort of animal hierachy which sort of prooves that it's an intrinsic part of human behaviour as well. All those cliche says 'survival of the fittest' and stuff only reinforces brutish behaviour like bullying and asserting yourself as being better than others. This is why I pretty much believe Communism, while sounding nice on paper can never be properly executed. It's built into our DNA really.

Speaking of animal behaviour, it's always so interesting and fascinating to see unusual pairings of animals that span across genus groups such as this albino rabbit which appears to be grooming this fawn. I could be wrong though, the nose sinked in to the fur above the ear could be biting but the posture is all wrong for the rabbit to be agressive. Besides, the deer seems at ease with his fluffy little friend.

I'm looking forward to travelling overseas in early 2013, maybe I'll be able to happen upon some lovely picturesque deer staring about at the horizon. It will just be nice to be able to see things that are rare and unseen in my country, I feel so tired of everything I know I want things to be different and I'd also like to be comfortable when I sleep at night. These bloody mosquitos are going to be the death of me, and if they aren't then I'll simply drop dead from not enough sleep.

I don't care if it is a domesticated fawn or a cheap plastic lawn ornament, whatever the case whoever managed to get so close to a deer using an analogue camera which vignettes at the corners (most likely a plastic lens and plastic body) camera should be congratulated. Maybe not so much if it is a lawn ornament but it has a furry quality about it so they have found a very good and convincing plastic statue with a cute little fluffy tail.

While becoming a veterinarian isn't all about caring for baby animals and will involved tough decisions, nevre-wrakcing surgery as well as heart ache I can look after cute little sweethears such as this baby fawn! I love the tufts on his back as well as speckled pacthes of fur and the extra large ears sitting on his head.
