Differences Between Me and Cool Kids

Since I'm pottering about the house and being anti-social, I'd like to put together some facts about myself and the distinguishing features of cool kids that will lead you, dear reader to come to the conclusion that this is the blog of the lamest person on Earth. For one thing, cool people either host or get invited to costume parties where there are drunken hook-ups and people acting without inhibition and I have never been invited to a costume party (or crashed one) and have never been drunk. I've barely been tipsy when I drink alcohol but that's because I don't really have the intention of making a fool of myself.

Cool people are often skinny and attractive, wear layers of make up to school and not a lot of clothing when they go outside. At the age of about fourteen and fifteen they wore leggings as pants with white socks they wear to school with cheap canvas shoes and mid drift shirts because they have a flat stomach and at the age of about sixteen or even younger they may engage in the activity known as belly button piercing. At the age of eight when I got my ears pierced my mother made me promise never to get any other piercings aside from my ears and since she's the kind of person to hold a grudge for years I am bound to keep my word.

Cool people often can perform amazing feats and tricks when using their mouths and tongues such as tying up long strings of lolly such as snakes into knows, blowing bubbles using bubble gum or chewing gum and are fantastic kissers due to their promiscuity and rebellion against a traditional romantic relationship. I had my first kiss at age sixteen, have only ever had one boyfriend (although to me he is pretty cool, the bees knees as it were) and cannot perform any cool tricks involving my mouth and food. There is the disappearing act in which I swallow, digest and process food but that's nothing too special really.

Through years of breeding with other cool people, a race of super cool people has been perfected in which they are immune to the painful blistering at the back of the heel caused by popular culture combat boots by Dr Martens. The last recorded appearance of my combat boots on my feet was the day was followed by an incredibly painful blister and a few days of limping hap-hazardly around the house.

Many cool people pursue university/ college education in which they will spend three years or so earning a white elephant degree such as an Arts degree or possibly going to art school and living vicariously through selling bad drawings and paintings. While some are educated in practical trades and more complex subjects, some remain to practice the photographic arts and have mastered the use of multiple exposure shoots as well as using fisheye distortion lenses.

Lots of cool people have dogs and or cats that they don't bother to discuss in everyday conversation and they also contribute very little to the quality of life of his/ her pet. There are people like me who have one or even both parents opposed to the possession of an animal fearing they are dirty and flea-ridden or who have had a multitude of rabbits or other small pets in their lifetime. People like me spend their time talking about what their pet rabbit chose to eat on that particular morning as well as ignoring all human life when meeting a four-legged friend at someone else's house.

Space is the Place

When things get too boring on this tiny little rock of ours, remember there is a whole world outside our atmosphere and in the stars above and that space is the place. While we all can't be blessed with near perfect scores on every single test and being chosen as an astronaut it is possible to be able to read about the celestial in science fiction books as well as the factual. I am lucky enough to live in a home with such large print books as 'Astrology', as well as 'Build your own Telescope' and my personal favourite: 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.'

I love the old 1960s scene of what seems to be clumsy and clunky space suits as well as the Apollo moon lander. One of my favourite episodes of Doctor Who revolves around this time period and how much The Doctor loves the 'cool' astro gear. As part of my study in Year Eleven Physics we were told to learn the names of each moon cycle and it's shadowy picture but with further study involving difficult calculus I can't quite get my head around studying space and galaxies, despite the interesting factual data.

If I had not been deterred by the flaky art teacher that had been bestowed upon my class in Year Eight as well as her overbearing and nasally voice I may have taken a greater interest in drawing and being able to command colour as the illustrator of this piece had done. It would be great to be able to perform water colour as well as mixing shades of purple, blues and reds.

This is one of the more gorgeous tattoos I've seen and after having a little chat with my boyfriend's high school friend a tattoo on your back may not hurt as much being more meat on your bone so to speak then say, the top of your foot. I'm wary of coloured tattoos eventually losing their colours so if I was that way inclined something in black shading would be better and the different stages of the moon looks so gorgeous as well as the intricate detail of each crater and it's not just the same design repeated over and over again. In the car we reached the conclusion that tattoos can be art and tasteful but otherwise trashy and this is really something I would love penned on myself... if I was unable to feel any pain and dead on the inside that is.

Henson Moon Jewellery

The label Henson first came to my attention after the tragic earthquake hit Auckland during a period of recuperation and rebuilding in which several of my favourite brands were collected and donated in the name of charity. At first I was only interested in the Diana Mini Valentine's Day special from Lomography but there were also concert tickets as well as dates with celebrities at stake. One such item among the auction with all proceeds going to help those in Auckland most affected by the disaster was a thick and chunk signet ring simply named moon by the name of Henson. The ring itself was made of solid silver with an oxidised brushed effect over the top- only a few nights ago I found the same ring online for more than 50% off RRP on a New Zealand fashion site (I'm going through a large New Zealand online store phase right now).

The features are so seemingly delicate, even for such an unyielding metal. I love the pursed lips, little button nose, gentle curve of the eyebrow and the sheer symmetry of the piece. For earrings you have a choice of polished silver discusses threaded onto posts and backed bu butterfly clips or the same basic design which is then naturally blackened in the chemical process known as oxidation. In the days of old when Chanel made large chunky gold earrings they favoured clips more so to support the large designs and I suppose I'd feel a little more secure knowing there was more than a single post supporting this solid moon face. My little lobes wouldn't be able to support this much weight but if I could manage to pull off the look, I'd probably opt for the darker earrings myself. There's always charm and intrigue in the dark and mysterious.

I can see why the outer rim was incorporated into the design of the rings as I have two large silver signet rings myself and it lends itself well to it but why there's a ring orbiting this lovely moon necklace is a mystery to me. From the first photograph it looks as if there's a split seem halfway through the pendant which would make it a locket rather than a pendant but there's no mention of it being a locket on the online store.

All jewellery are made from sterling silver and hand sanded to give each one a unique finish.
Some have been blackened by a process called oxidisation.
The black does fade away over time.
It takes 2-4 hours to finish each one.
All jewellery comes in a display box, the necklace box doubles as a stand.

I already have two large and chunky silver signet rings which can only really be worn on the one hand; one online from Najo and the other is Woodford and Co. but would it really be so bad if I were to add another ring to my collection and acquire a piece of jewellery of silver and brass as well? I really must curb my enthusiasm for signet rings and stop this growing collection and addiction. This was the ring design for auction all those years ago while I do like the brushed effect I am all too familiar with the effects and its tendency to fade. Luckily for me it's the brass ring that's 50% off from $310 to $155! It would be nice if I could get the necklace for cheap though, I'd love to wear that with a long and slouchy over sized shirt in black, or maybe a shirt dress.
I'm curious as to why the moon ring has also been manufactured in brass as well as the classic brushed silver, the bright reflective yellow toned metal looks almost like gold in the first profile photograph. Traditionally silver has been associated with the gods Phoebe/ Diana, Selene and Artemis and thought to have come through the moon whereas gold is associated by the sun and represents lofty Apollo. The dreamy and peaceful expression of the moon face reminds me a lot of the motifs from Thai jewellery but with more minimalist design and a broader face suggesting Western influence. With the simple design of the ring, even in brass maybe the moon ring would become a sun ring. Seeing this combination of silver and brass reminds me of a gorgeous cow skull necklace from Nick Von K, I really love seeing the two metals together!

Believe it or not, but my Woodford and Co. signet ring is probably wider than this heavy costume ring. Maybe not as tall judging from the slight side profile on the shoulder of the ring but still quite the statement piece. I'm not at all deterred by the fact these pieces are carried by sites specifically aimed at the male hipster audience, after all, I feel safe having large silver rings on my fingers. It just means there will be extra weight and impact to any punch I pack.

Ann Demeulemeester and Comme des Garcons

I have had my eye on a few goodies from an online store that sell some of the biggest and best names in the fashion industry such as the Ann Demeulemeester black jersey dress featuring the black and white mystical moon and the Comme des Garcons velvet red blazer and creeper brogues. All the pieces are second hand and at a fraction of their original value but with hardly any wear and tear and their owners often having only used them once or twice within their lives so far. I've had my eyes on the brogue creepers for a while with their chunky platform heel as well as the transparent plastic on the sides, and I like the styling with the Comme des Garcons blazer and the black socks. I've always thought that the burgundy American Apparel socks would create a more interesting effect with those shoes though.

I love the loose and casual look of this dress by Ann Demeulemeester, although I'm not familiar with a lot of her other work I do know that lately I've been attracted to and drawn in by the occult and magical and lusted after a cut out, pre-stressed jersey shirt of a wolf on it. I love wearing things with extra long sleeves as well, being able to snuggle inside the clothing and hiding my hands in them. The black and white print is very suited to the mood evoked by the chosen print; what with the moon as well as the low hanging cloud and radar dish in the horizon of the photograph chosen for this long and lazy dress.

I love the modern twist on thick and chunky brogues used to instantly add to a girl's height with stability. At first I didn't immediately take to the opaque but transparent materials used by replacing a white leather section but it just adds to the updated nature and new take on a tried and true classic which is also traditionally a shoe worn by men. Within recent months I've seen a lot of variation on brogues, winkle pickers and vintage looking shoes and own a pair myself made by Vans in all leather body. I love the trend, I'm aching to see more of it. All I can really say is keep them coming because I'll keep on lapping it up.

I also really admire the use of luxurious velvet; mostly all I can afford being a student is vintage pieces but this jacket by Comme des Garcons is really something! I could never really justify the expenditure on a piece such as this, but it would be nice to wear something like it for a University graduation as well as a nice black dress or something. Right now everything is early days and I'm still yet to be accepted into a university so let's just scrap that idea for now shall we? Even when rolled up and getting to see the lining of the jacket sleeves it looks so glorious, a cheerier red interior makes the outside red velvet seem even darker by comparison.

The red velvet jacket reminds me of something actor David Tennant wore on his appearance for a Christmas edition of the quiz show QI, and with a little brooch of holy this would certainly dress the jacket up to the festive season. This photograph from the back shows the careful structure and the way the material simply drapes around the body, it'd be great with a plain black of white dress as shown above with a cute pleated mini skirt in a leather material. It's fun, bright and rare and I would feel honoured to be able to buy such a great piece of clothing but I must resist and manage my funds more carefully from now on. That just takes all the fun out of shopping and browsing online doesn't it?
