Pageant Minute: Miss Universe 2011 Official Evening Gown Portraits--The "Sassy" Bunch!!!

The "WORK IT!" girls...

It's 1979 All Over Again: This contestant--scroll below to find out where she is from--makes my "Sassy" Miss Universe 2011 Evening Gown List

To wrap up my "reviews" of the Miss Universe 2011 "Official Evening Gown Portraits" (You can click HERE, for my "Best", HERE for my "Oh No You Didn't" and HERE for "Strippers or Miss Universe Contestants"), I decided there were FOUR gals who stood out for just being SASSY and FAB-u-LOUS, in terms of their photos and "gown" choices. Now, these contestants could have easily made my "Put That Dress Back On The Rack" list--or even my "Miss Universe Strippers" List for that matter--but the good thing is that THEY DIDN'T! Why, well, see for yourself:

Miss South Africa Universe 2011 Bokang Montjane: Safari Anyone??? Where is Peter Beard when you need him??? Miss South Africa is giving animal print and not just any animal print but BIG OL' zebra!! You Go Girl! The gown fits beautifully and that "Oh, are you really looking at me?" pose is FABULOUS in my "Nick V" book! If I was a LION, I'd run the other way!!! Sassy Points: 8.8

Miss Guyana Universe 2011 Kara Lord: Seriously, when I saw this photo, I almost thought I heard Chic's "Le Freak" and I was back at Studio 54!!! How amazing is this? This lady knows WAAAY too many gays! And I LOVE her for it! I really want to know what song they were playing during this photo-shoot that got her "in the mood" to be all Pat Cleveland/Bianca Jagger. The poly charmeuse dress, bold tacky necklace those not-matching black pumps...she could have easily made my "Not" List. But the pose and that "It's 1979" look, got her in my Sassy List. Sassy Points: 9.5

Miss Bahamas Universe 2011 Anastagia Pierre: I can't even begin to tell you the SHIVAHS I got when I saw this photo of Miss Bahamas Universe 2011 Anastagia. let me remind you, this was supposed to be the "Official EVENING GOWN Portraits" for the Miss Universe 2011 Website. And she chose a strapless sequined JUMPSUIT!!!! How much do I LOVE her!!! I think she's waiting in line with Miss Guyana Universe 2011 to get into Studio 54...in 1979! I also LOVE her because I actually had a FAB "encounter" with her:

Model Anastagia Pierre, Miss Bahamas Universe 2011, Islands of The World Fashion Week 2010

Anastagia was one of the top models "working the runway" at last year's AMAZING Islands of The World Fashion Week in Nassau The Bahamas, which I hosted. She modeled for several of the featured designers and in fact, wore a gown of the Winner of the IOTW Fashion Week's "In Search of the Next Oscar" Competition:

The winner was Georgina Estherr (middle) of the Dominican Republic and her "Muse", none other than Anastagia Pierre, Miss Bahamas Universe 2011 (on the left).

Oh, and by the way, she gets 9.8 "Nick V. Sassy Points" for the sequined jumpsuit "Evening Gown" Photo!

Finally...our last "Sassy Girl" is...

Miss Thailand Universe 2011 Chanyasorn Sakornchan: First: The Gown. AMAZEEENG!!! It's a gown..nope, it's also a sequined jumpsuit! Second: The Pose. She is having a BLAST. The perfect pose for this KRAZEE "gown". She's going to the Oscars AND Disco Night at "Oil Can Harry's" in The Valley (The L.A. peeps will understand!). Not to mention: She is STUNNING! Therefore Chanyasorn gets TEN Nick V Sassy Points!!! ขอแสดงความยินดี (Congratulations in Thai) !!

Adriana isn't an only angel- Axe Ad

When I saw the Axe Excite ad I thought the main model that appeared there was Adriana Lima. But apparently it was Sara Sampaio, 20-years old Portugese beauty.

Femme Fatale: Alexa Chung

I think I may have discovered the perfect crush and embodiment of all that is cool, vintage and stylish - Alexa Chung. It's funny to have this sort of weird longing to meet someone but to also become more like someone since I never really had that teenage stage where I plaster the walls of my room with only images of one person. My wall at the moment is a hot-pot of vogue extracts, posters and other magazine clippings from Russh.

But just because I'm not used to this sort of bizarre feeling of fascination it doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. Her look and style is so simplistic but chic. There are moments where her eyes give of this fantastic mysteriousness as well as brooding inert darkness. She can pull of a model's pout but she looks so gorgeous and like she has a warmth of her own when she smiles. I love the quirky little cameo skeleton necklace she wears, but its really difficult to find high quality cameo jewellery that's quirky. The eccentric cameo pieces are usually plastic which is why I'm more incline to stick with vintage pieces.
The eyeliner Chung wears is enough to accentuate and bring attention to those beautiful eyes of hers without over doing it and leaving long comet tails too far across her face. Something I have yet to fully master. She looks so gorgeous and slight; but not in the tradition of being unhealthy and skinny. She looks radiant and gorgeous. This post mainly has Chung wearing muted tones of light pink, beige, cream, white and black. There's something to be said for her mastery of the minimalist effect and how it really makes the wearer stand out. Not being over shadowed by the clothes they wear.

I've been growing my hair out long so that it reaches my waist but seeing how lovely she looks with her tousled shoulder length hair almost makes her face look longer and more delicate. It makes me want to hack off my own hair and have the different tones throughout its length but I know that I would only look dishevelled and trashy whereas she is known for it and carries the style far better than I or any other mortal could try.

There's something to be said about a strong woman who is very talented without spreading herself thin. A style icon, TV presenter, contributing editor to British Vogue DJ, model and I am sure, a wonderful person and very lovely in her own right Alexa Chung is setting the bar high for standards of grooming and quirk. Something I hope to one day aspire towards within my own right.

Black Milk - Leggings

Black Milk is continually moving - each design is limited to number in production and the brand is fast paced and the best bit about it is that they're truly taking fashion into the 21st century and putting Australian fashion on the map. Although the leggings have wild and eccentric prints, they're really comfy and fit well. Provided you get the correct size and aren't limited to choosing amongst limited eBay listings then these fashion pieces are flattering as well as eye-catching. On their website and online store (which has been prone to breaking down a lot due to the massive consumer demand for leggings, dresses and bodysuits) there is now a 'museum' section dedicated to their retired prints as well as various media sites (Tumblr and Facebook) and of course their the online store. I mus admit though I am happy to see all the galaxy range of leggings, dresses and bodysuits available in all sizes at the time I write this, the range of pieces available previously had been much better and some of my favourites such as the aquarium and cathedral leggings have been retired. I will continue to hunt on eBay when my wallet permits but I am annoyed that they are missing out on the opportunity to expand their sales profits because they are too proud to print more of a certain print. Although it may just be that they are intricate and difficult to make I sincerely hope that they make some of the wilder and more eccentric leggings and revive them. I leave you with my gallery of captured Black Milk leggings and hope you enjoy. If you have any enquiries please direct them to the official Black Milk website.

Most of the images in this post have been taken directly from the Black Milk website as well as from Tumblr fan pages of Black Milk crazed girls showing us how it's done. And Tavi Gevinson showing us all how you really wear them and looking amazing while doing it.
