Red Carpet Report: Met Ball 2012 Models On The Red Carpet

Met Ball 2012 Red Carpet: The Models!!

Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations--Met Ball 2012

Last night, in NYC, was the Met Ball 2012--the Costume Institute Gala to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's new Costume Exhibition entitled "Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations". The exhibition explores the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. The exhibit is directed by Baz Luhrmann, and focuses on how both women explore similar themes in their work through very different approaches. It opens May 10th and runs through August 19, 2012. Now, in case you've been living under a Fashion Rock, the Met Ball has become the "Oscars Red Carpet" for the fashion world. A-list celebs vie for an invitation and to be paired up with designers and of course, it's the time when all the World's Top Models show how they do the Red Carpet...so let's see how the models did:

Heidi Klum in Custom Escada: Heidi wore a navy blue lace high neck gown with dropped shoulders featuring scalloped edges and yes, a side slit. Thank goodness this side slit was "Lady Like" and Miss Klum didn't show her nether-regions. She also gets points for doing "the Angelina" and doing it well.

Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello: Now speaking of nether-regions and doing the "Angelina"...Oh Dear Lord! Polish-born supermodel took the term HIGH SLIT to another level altogether. The gown was designed by Belgian-Italian newcomer Anthony Vaccarello is a white one shoulder dress with a slash at the top and big ol' slit at the side.

Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2012 Slash and Slit on model Karlie Kloss

Vaccarello loves his slashes and slits and is quickly becoming known for his "Robert Palmer Girls for the 21st Century" designs. Now, this particular gown--and her in it--pretty much takes the "Top World Slit Crown" for the next ten years to come! It's not really a slit but a complete CUT OUT of the side of her gown. Now, granted Anja has got enviable legs that well, go on forever and ever. But I'm afraid what happens after all those "ever and ever's"---Not sure if I want to see.

Olivier Theyskens and Caroline Trentini:  Fashion designer Olivier Theyskens arrived with Brazilian supermnodel Caroline Trentini at last night's Met Ball 2012. Trentini wore a lilac blue princess paneled gown designed by Theyskens of course. She looked elegant and demure. Not sure if it was impacting enough--or highlighted Caroline's AMAZING over 6 foot long frame. However, this could really look appropriate on Catherine Duchess of Cambridge or Princess Charlene of Monaco. Note to Princess Charlene: order this gown!!!

Coco Rocha in Vintage 1980's Hubert de Givenchy: Model Coco Rocha bid--and won--this ensemble--at the Elizabeth Taylor Auction which occurred late last year. It was previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor and at the time of the purchase (her wining bid was $3,500) Rocha gushed that she would "Love to wear this at the Met Ball..." Well, her wish came true. She looked so chic. The color and hand-applied couture sequins add enough uniqueness to this pant-ensemble that it can have as much of an impact as wearing a full-length gown.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen in Givenchy: The perfect couple. Just look at them. Both are wearing Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. Gisele looks amazing in this fitted waist-defining gown. Love the strappy heels and her slicked chignon hairstyle. Now, speaking of hair: Tom...Tom..Tom...not sure what his hair stylist was thinking when this slicked-up faux-hawk was thrust upon Brady. I think he should have just done a "Clark Cable Slick" and leave it at that. What do you guys think?

Chanel Iman and Tom Ford both wearing Tom Ford: Model Chanel Iman wore an intricate, and original, gown made of pheasant feathers molded to her body with illusion sections. She was covered up--almost completely. But yet, still oh-so-sexy. The gown was designed by Tom Ford, who incidentally looked IMPECCABLE. PS: when doesn't he???

Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe: Three words: You. Go. Girl. Karolina Kurkova attended the Met Ball last night in this golden stunner of a gown, with a matching turban, no less! The gown was designed by Stylist-to-the-Stars Rachel Zoe. I absolutely LOVE it!! She looks like Carmen Miranda as she arrives into Sao Paulo for a Black Tie Ball...in 1944! It's very Sheikha Mozah of Qatar. I bet the Sheikha is jealous right about now, wishing she would have done this look at one of her fabulous global trips.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely: The English supermodel is the Face of Burberry Body and naturally, she wore a custom gown from Burberry and it's designer Christopher Bailey. The gown featured horizontal "striped" motif all in sequins, a fishtail train and cowl-draped back. It's perfection--from head to toe. I also love that her date--Peruvian-born photographer Mario Testino--is back there with his iPhone taking pics of the red carpet madness in the photo at top left.

Linda Evangilista in Prada: Oh Miss Linda. She's been going through a very public child custody court case as of late. In fact, late yesterday, Evangelista and the father of their child Francois Henri-Pinault settled (settlement amount and details of the agreement will not be disclosed). So, she put all that drama behind for one night and attended the Met Ball looking sublime and every inch a supermodel (and maybe much richer too!). She wore a simple black silk duchesse satin column gown featuring a scooped neck and a peplum. Definition of a Lady.

What did you guys think of these models and who was YOUR Favorite/Not Favorite? I'd love to read your thoughts! Let me know!

Next up...Best Dressed of the Night!!

Post-Halloween Fashion Minute: Heidi Klum Halloween!!

Heidi Klum: Skin-and-MonkeyTastic!!!

Heidi Klum as "Skin-and-Bones" at her TAO/The Venetian Las Vegas Halloween Party on Saturday (top photo) and with Seal as The Perfect Monkey Couple, last night at her NY Halloween Party at the PH-D Rooftop Lounge/Dream Downtown NYC

One word: Wow! My Project Runway DIVA Heidi Klum loves her Halloween Parties and for 2011, this was no exception! I was invited to her infamous "Heidi's Halloween" Party this year. Usually she has one in Los Angeles one year and NYC the next, and so on. I thought that LA was this year.

Hints of the Costumes--Heidi's Halloween 2011: The Invitation

If it was, I would have SOOO been there (sine I reside here!). But nope: for the 12th anniversary of her Halloween Parties, she chose to do two. One held in Las Vegas and the other, in NYC. I almost went to the Las Vegas one, only because it was so close to LA. But alas, I was too busy making my collection that well, I had no time to make myself a costume worthy of attending a "Heidi Klum Halloween"!

In 2007, I went as one of the Marie Antoinette Royal Court (photo above with Heidi Klum and my fellow Season 2 Alumni Santino Rice)

In 2009, I did some red carpet reporting for the Modelinia.com site and I made (with the help of my NIKOLAKI Design Partner David Paul) a "Bollywood-meets-Gay-Aladdin" Costume.

So, let's get back to Miss Heidi:

The Las Vegas event was held at TAO in The Venetian this past Saturday night, and for that one, the Mistress of Halloween Ceremonies, decided to go as a Skin-and-Bone Version of herself--straight out of "Bodies: The Exhibition". She looked INCREDIBLE!!! Oh and did I mention that she made quite an entrance...on a gurney--with some HOT HOT nurses (where did she find them??).

For Monday night's party at the Dream Downtown NYC Hotel (love that hotel and the pool!), Heidi and her husband Seal came as a loving Monkey Couple. Again: UBER fab! You see, this is what I am talking about: when Heidi and Seal go a out for their Halloween Parties, you CANNOT show up with something from Hollywood Blvd. Costume-in-a-bag!!

Speaking of her costumes: her fittings occurred while she was in NYC filming the Project Runway Season 9 Finale in early September. Recognize someone in the background? It's Nicolas Putvinski (right behind Heidi) from Season 6. He is the lead assistant to costume designer EXTRAORDINAIRE Martin Izquierdo (red shirt and glasses) of Izquierdo Studio, famous for creating the Victoria's Secret Wing ensembles. There's an article in UsWeekly that erroneously states that I had something to do with her costumes, needless to say, I didn't (I wish!), but they got me confused with Nic Putvinski, who really did help make her amazing costumes.

She even tweeted photos--as she was getting ready for the Las Vegas party--of the play-by-play transformation from Supermodel to Super Skin-and-Bones. Check out these photos:

And of course, The End Result:

Happy Halloween Miss Heidi!!! Hope next year it's in LA so I come!! Below are some of the guests that attended the NY Party:

Project Runway Season 9 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Finale Runway Show in NYC!

DEEEEEESIGNERS...

Prom Photo: Heidi Klum and Nick Verreos, Project Runway Season 9 Finale Runway Show, Mercedes-Benz NYC Fashion Week Lincoln Center

Last Friday, the day after I had to host a FUN Fashion's Night Out and Project Style Event in Charleston West Virginia, I flew to NYC--on a 6AM flight, arriving at 8:00AM--for a very important business meeting I had to attend in Manhattan at noon. Now, I cannot divulge the details of that "very important" meeting but let's just say that the meeting went well, thank you very much! In addition (by coincidence), I had been invited to attend the Project Runway Season 9 Finale Runway Show at Lincoln Center as part of the Mercedes-Benz NYC Spring 2012 Fashion Week. The show was at 9:30 AM that same morning. I am "Fashion Superman" so time to "Make It Work".

Le Judges: Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and L'Wren Scott

Like I said, my plane arrived at 8:00AM, then I took a car to NYC where I hit upon trouble: As in TRAFFIC! Not just any traffic, but Manhattan Traffic. It took ALMOST TWO HOURS from the time I arrived in Manhattan to get to Lincoln Center to the Fashion Show! Crazy. Eventually, I got there at 9:45AM. The show had not started yet and so I took my seat--and padded down my I'm-not-going-to-make-it sweaty brow!

Prized Ticket: My Seat Assignment, Project Runway Season 9 Finale Runway Fashion Show Lincoln Center

I won't divulge any DIRT (you can go check the web-o-sphere for photos of the designer's final collections and/or wait until the Finale Episode airs) other than Heidi Klum looked AMAZING in a Michael Kors black sequined jumpsuit and that the Guest Judge was none other than L'Wren Scott--Mick Jagger's statuesque partner and Go-To Designer for Fabulously Tight red carpet cocktail dress and gowns. Nina Garcia looked FLAWLESS (also in Michael Kors), I may add. Besides saying a quick "Hello" to my favorite blond, Miss Heidi, I also ran into several past Project Runway Alumni, including:

Bag Ladies: Nick Verreos and Project Runway Season 8 Finalist Mondo Guerra--and their respective Man Bags, Mercedes-Benz NYC Fashion Week Lincoln Center

Nick Verreos and Project Runway Season 6 Finalist Althea Harper

The Designers Showing at NYC Fashion Week (Clockwise from top to bottom): Laura Kathleen, Bryce Black, Bert Keeder, Anthony Ryan Auld, Kimberly Goldson, Olivier Green, Anya Ayoung Chee, Joshua McKinley, Viktor Luna

The Project Runway Season 9 Finale Runway Show consisted of the NINE Designers still on the show--still on TV, that is, even though they have filmed the entire season up to the Top 3, I believe. In other words, if there are THREE Finalists (like usual), we had to see six "Decoy" runway shows. Hope that all makes sense, if not, sorry...you'll figure it out in due time. I have to say that my FAVORITES were (sit down!): Laura Kathleen (she didn't do "Kentucky Derby" Rich Women Doing Lunch!), Anya Ayoung Chee (Very "Korto-meets-Uli" Resortwear for Kim Kardashian!) and Anthony Ryan Auld (liked his deigns, not so sure of those wigs and that one hat!). I have no idea who the Top 3 are, but those are my "Nick Pick's".

Nightcap Reunion: Season 7 Designer Ben Chmura, Season 8 Designer Peach Carr, Nick Verreos, Barracuda NYC nightclub, Chelsea NYC

Later that night--after the show--and my business meetings, I had a delicious dinner with friends and then went to Barracuda NYC for a "nightcap" where (wouldn't you know it!), I ran into a couple Project Runway kids: Season 7 Designer Ben Chmura and Season 8 Designer Peach Carr. We had lots of fun DISHING on the morning's show and who were our faves. But soon, it was time to go: I had to leave to get a little bit of sleep before I caught my 7AM flight back to Los Angeles to host a Project Style event in Rancho Cucamonga in Southern California the following day. I heard there was a fun "Project Reunion HP Party" on Saturday night which I missed (because of the event I was hosting back in CA) and that all the designers in attendance received an HP Computer. Oh well...

PS: Hey HP: Uncle Nick LOVES HP!! :)

Project Runway Season 9 Begins Filming in New York's Battery Park!

DEEEEEsignersssss...

The Black Fashion Brigade: Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia: photo from Kim Kardashian's Twitter page

Today we got a glimpse of the taping of the new season (Season 9) of Project Runway in a outdoor runway show. It looks to be the taping of the premiere episode in which an unprecedented 20 contestants are vying for the coveted title of America's Next Top Fashion Designer and the $100,000 prize. What a brilliant way to reveal to everyone the 20 contestants selected to participate in this new season.

The taping took place in New York's Battery Park...

La Heidi: Miss Heidi, looked every bit of a Femme Fatale DIVA...in a black one-shoulder princess-seamed Alexander Wang dress, Wolford tights, Jimmy Choo peep-toe pumps and a Barneys NY Belt. LOVING the entire look of "Dominatrix Couture" and I especially love the slicked-back gelled "Robert Palmer Girl" hair. WUNDERBAR!!!

Kim Kardashian was the Guest Celebrity Judge and she was all serious in a black very fitted (of course!) mini dress with flange shoulders (look it up kiddies!) and white side panels; she accessorized with hoop earrings (of course, Part Two). And naturally, her hair and make-up are FLAWLESS...

Nina Garcia was wearing...

Giambatista Valli Fall 2011. Well, of course she is!!!! Leave it to Miss Nina to give it to them!!! She added her own "stamp" on it by adding a skinny belt and cinched in it--LOVE IT!

The Scene at Battery Park, on the "set" of the new season of Project Runway!!

And what would a blog post on Project Runway be without...

TIM GUNN!!! Looking so dapper in his blue window pane plaid suit, gingham tie and pattern pocket square. Tim is really stepping up the style quotient already this season. Love the "hints" of color. Keep it up!!
And...do I spot contestants behind him?! I wonder...

And as always Blogging Project Runway has the ultimate Field Report with tons of photos!

Red Carpet Report: Weekly Round-Up Part 2--Heidi Klum, Naomie Harris, Molly Sims, Krysten Ritter

Plunging Necklines, Valentino Shorts, and ONE Dress for Two Red Carpet Events...

Heidi Klum: My dear friend, Supermodel and SuperMommy Heidi Klum attended the 2nd Annual amfAR Inspiration Gala yesterday at the Museum of Modern Art New York City, wearing a baby blue halter gown with plunging neckline and high side-slit from one of my favorite Project Runway judges (he he!), Michael Kors. GA-GA-Gorgeous! Love the slicked back hair, the tan, the strappy heels! She is soooo going to meet friends for dinner ON HER Yacht off the Amalfi Coast wearing this look! Rumour has it that Heidi is in town to begin filming the new season of Project Runway--Season 9 (yes, kids, look out for some covered vans outside of Parsons in the next coming weeks!!!) as well as the new All Stars season (killing two Project Runway Birds with one fashionable stone!!).

Naomie Harris: English Actress Naomie Harris attended the 2011 Keep A Child Alive Black Ball wearing Valentino Spring 2011. At first I was like "She looks fairly familiar but...Who Is She?" and then I Googled her and Voila: "Pirates of The Caribbean" (oh yeah!!! Love her!) AND "28 Days Later". Well, I knew she was somebody, especially since the press house of Valentino doesn't just lend out dresses to anybody! I love this look on her--the silk organza blouse, the high-neck, those embroidered lace high-waisted shorts...all finished off perfectly with a simple black clutch and STOMPING black heels.

Molly Sims: Model/actress Molly Sims stepped out onto the 3rd Annual Bent On Learning Benefit Red Carpet wearing this demure and oh-so-sweet strapless dress in dusty rose featuring some nice side pleating and folding.

Krysten Ritter: "She's Out Of My League" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic" actress and former model, Kristen Ritter (no relation to the late actor John Ritter) was at the grand opening of Dream Downtown, PH-D Rooftop Lounge and Marble Lane restaurant wearing a silver and blush/nude tiered dress from Alice + Olivia. After attending the 3rd Annual Bent On Learning Benefit (sponsored by Alice + Olivia) Krysten dashed over to Dream Downtown to get her "party on". Two Red Carpet events, One Dress. No outfit changes. Good Girl.
