Blue

Something that takes me by surprise countless times is the use of blue in punk clothing and outfits and how well it works as a constituent shade of darkness. Once I at least sort out my funds of what will be spent on fun things and what must be saved, I will either buy a wonderful handbag that will serve me for years to come or I will be in the mood to finally buy a pair of creepers. I would probably be a little more enthused to buy some creepers once my leggings from Wowch come in the mail but for now I have my mind set on a good studded, black leather handbag. I'm also thinking of injecting some more blue into my wardrobe by wearing clear shoes with blue socks and denim shirts, but it looks like I'll need to make me mind up and prioritise- I can't possibly buy all the lovely items my heart desires at this moment in time.

Sometime last year (possibly even in 2010) Oyster Magazine featured a striking image of a girl with heavy black front fringe and a  gold-metal studded leather jacket- I thought it looked like heaven on Earth. An icier and cooler reincarnation of the same jacket has once again blesses us this time with silver studs and chic blue hair. I'd love to be able to stud things myself but I have seen far too many sub-par studded jackets and would prefer it be done right and with medical precision. I don't own a leather jacket myself and while they're not on trend prolifically at the moment I wouldn't mind having something with biker gang toughness to wear over my sweaters for university. It just feels so good being punk.

At this very instant I am watching David Attenborough's documentary on bears which features our friend the polar bear. I feel horrible and worn it today and a little blue myself- I think lethargic would be the best word since I've started my holiday for Mid-Semester break and need to revise over all the biology lectures, something which I'm struggling with. Were it not for the fact that I am such an over-achiever and I pride myself on my grades, I would love to curl up in bed with the laptop and watch Japanese movies and blog all day. This is but a simple reprieve from my busy study schedule in order to make time later in the week to relax- when I'll really need the rest and relaxation.

Another wonderful result of my rest from attending lectures is that I allowed my self ample time to scope out Tumblr and collect a few more photographs and images together and explore the Olympia Le-Tan blog. In the online world is a refuge of Japanese and mysticism, something I've been in dire need of for some number of weeks. The next week will be spent refueling my spiritual tanks and getting inspired once again to write and also commentate on collections. There's a great variety of new collections on Solestruck and other 2012 runway shows I can't wait to share with all of you.

My last holidays were spent in the company of aromatic, scented candles of Cherry Blossom and a near-obsession with fire and flames. While I don't attempt to spend my time again in such insidious conditions and with dark auroras abound, I wouldn't mind using them to spark a mood of romanticism- were it not for the fact my family will be home for the entirety of my break. It looks like I'll be faithfully enjoying the company of my new laptop and interactions with the keyboard instead...

While my father would be both abhorred and scarred by the image of such a beauty with blue hair, I love the modern and fresh take on models. I watch Britain's Top Model on and off when I can (the only region where I can tolerate their accents and challenges) and was delighted when a contestant for the show, Anastasia, received a makeover of pink hair. Whether you opt for luscious pink looks or something a little more close to the heart of the ice queen, I am certain that for a moment you will capture strangers' attention. With a great variety of streaking shades and colours that branch out from the scalp and culminate over tantalising bare breasts, I love the new and artistic nature fashion has been heading towards as of late.

I'm already looking forward to studying abroad and I think my mind has been swayed to either visit Japan for three weeks with my mother or study there as part of student exchange. I caught up with all the recent activity of my favourite Parisian designer who had been to visit the Miyazaki museum, feeding my own childish love of manga and the zoo as well as other adorable photos. I can't wait to press my ugly nose up to airplane windows as I touch down into foreign lands again and to go mental with disposable cameras to cement my aspirations, hopes and dreams within a strange city. There's inky black skies and flickers and streamers of light to look forward to on my own when I get out there into the big bad world.

While I had been keen to go on night time adventures in parks and finally engage in wild youth-filled exuberance I'm struggling to stay up at night due to me early morning routine and will probably hang around the house for the next few days over Easter. You often picture what your life is going to be, and plan what you want to become and no matter how much you want something within a single instance, by the time you get to what you plan for, you don't want it anymore. It's enough to make you blue when your mother wants your brother to buy his own house and he's playing video games starring batman instead.

I rather badly wanted to make today productive and do work and get on top of my study and feel an aching sense of tiredness, intermingling with accomplishment. I made a small dent into the lectures I need to review, watched an absolutely inspiring video of Tavi Gevinson's room and interview about her journey in fashion blogging and fragmented outfits and am now listening to covers of Lana Del Rey. Strong women and being strong myself usually cheers me up but I could kill for a coffee right about now... were it not for the fact it's nine o'clock at night. I hope everyone is having a cheery Easter.

Blue Hair

What better way to commiserate a blue mood then to ponder about the mystery of blue hair and all the wild and rebellious nature of hair dye? Sometimes I wish I had grey or white hair so that colour would take to it better and now that fantasy has only been cemented in my imagination with the contrast of grey/ brown hair and bright blue dip dyed ends against an old blue sweatshirt. This first image of the post is my favourite of the entire post, simply for the grunge factor and minimalist appeal of black nails and a simple jumper worn over the top. Long flowing eyeliner doesn't go astray either and the manner in which the photographic flash bounces off the shiny blue hair is really something to behold- it's what you imagine the sky in the desert to look like on a day that could potentially melt your face from your skull.

Compared to the wonderful world of pink hair, it seems that blue hair has many more shades available and used by fashion hungry girls and for some it's not enough to have blue hair but their ends need to be in a soft purple tone too. As beautiful as the mass of her shown above is in its contained world of perfect curls you cant sustain a healthy head of hair in this colour with curling for long and it's only a matter of time before it becomes dry and tired. Unless of course it's a wig; in which case the hair will last forever and you should only worry about straightening it to fit your pretty little head.

I adore being able to dress in black socks and shoes as well as black jumpers with contrasting white crisp collars poking out, but when sporting dark hair that falls around the face it can look a bit artificial. What could be better than having brightly coloured and blue hair to offset all the boring and neutral tones of ones outfit and also emphasising a pale complexion? Well a unicorn would also be terribly fantastic but that may just be on the improbable and unachievable side of the scale compared to wicked style and hair the colour of a lagoon.

I know I've already featured this image once before on my blog but how can I resist leaving it out when conducting a special on blue hair? It's such an unusual and punk colour- apparently also the thing you can get suspended from high school for but since I am now off to university and other scholastic pursuits I am free to dye my hair any colour of my choosing and no one can really tell me off. I don't think I would be daring enough to wear a denim jacket with plastic black studs on the shoulders but its always nice to play pretend and think of what could be.

It's amazing what a packet of hair dye can do and change a person's look- while yellow isn't everyone's colour it looks great when contrasted against the blue dyed locks of this girl shown in profile and shrouded in her mass of hair. My favourite teen blogger Tavi Gevinson had a little fling with blue hair when her hair was a lot shorter- it slowly faded to a grey colour though without the maintenance and application of my blue hair dye to preserve the colour. That's at least one thing I can be thankful for when it comes to hair maintenance, I don't have to worry about roots or colour fading in unwanted shades.

In the true spirit of the grunge fuelled 90s, who wouldn't be impressed with blue hair and pink dip dye ends for good measure? While you may not get employed at a supermarket, there are some shops that cater for this sense of style and will readily employ you should you have the intelligence and appeal of a normal person. I suppose the hair is just an added bonus along with punk sense of style featuring cats and upside down crosses as so many people do wear these days.

The Blues

Today I had expected to spend most of the day gleefully writing over a hot keyboard but a five and a half hour power outage has left me instead with a case of the blues. Luckily for me I whipped up a few images earlier of all things blue in a sort of bowerbird collection of images. While many other people have been looking forward Valentines and all things pink and red, it seems my romantic mood happened a month early and instead I have my mind on chillier things including a holiday during Winter 2013 and warm and woolly coats and sweaters to prepare for Autumn and studying at university.

I was close but not close enough having a pass last year to visit Disneyland but not the newer addition of the Disney family, Disneyland's California adventure. It's a shame really because I wouldn't have minded a nice, big and furry hug from Monster's Inc. Sully but I think I'll settle for tender embraces exchanged with me beau.

I have been personally forbidden by my father from either possessing blue hair so I suppose I'm left to admire the luck of others who get to combine Primary colours in the forms of extravagant curled showgirl hair as well as a golden and glittery bustier and ruby red lips. It's strange that in this modern age, that blue hair seems to be just a little more popular than I perceive it to have been in the grunge era of the 90s.

Last year I was treated to a classic and cliche moment in which just before heading off to the beach an ice cream van rolled past my host family's house and I got to enjoy a colourful and frozen treat. A nice contrast between a clear blue sky and the ice cream, but maybe a small white cloud would have looked good with the bubble gum eyeballs. I really should have gotten something similar to this Spiderman ice cream with bubble gum eyeballs or maybe something of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle persuasion but instead I got a rocket-something or rather in patriotic red, white and blue.

Something old, something that can be new and also blue is the reinvented Diana camera from Lomography, the Diana Mini compatible with 35mm film. She looks a lot like her predecessor from the 60s the original Diana medium format camera but she's pocket sized and fits in the palm of your hand; both sharing the same lightweight and carefree spirit. While I do have many Diana F+ cameras, I'm finally selling my Diana Mini Noire since I have the 35mm back. I just prefer the bigger body and a more professional look, although I'm not sure how seriously you'll be taken with a toy camera in plastic around your neck.

For some people it's simply not enough to have blue hair and a nose piercing but there must be vibrance and vitality radiated from themselves. I quite like the neat tuxedo jacket and have, as of late been searching around for vintage tuxedo dresses and jackets myself but I will never look quite as colourful as this woman shown above. I do admire the neat and straight line of her fringe as well as the matched blue eyeshadow highlighting her green eyes as well as red lips but there's something very straight and therefor unnatural about her eyebrows. The frayed and dry crackly hair that seems teased out reminds me too much of Krusty the Clown, a television entertainer for children from The Simpsons.

I'm quite looking forward to the holiday I'll be taking in just over a year to Canada as well as experiencing varied and mountainous landscape, something Australia seems to be lacking in. I wasn't at all pleased to learn that I need to save five thousand dollars for the trip alone to go towards train tickets in The Rockies and something to contribute towards my plane ticket as well. Although I have saved $500 in a month, it seems that the road is going to be long and treacherous before I can breath easy and delight in buying things again after having scrounged and dug deep to save my pennies.

All day long during the power outage my mother has been complimenting me on the length of my hair saying I look very Japanese, although, if they were true then my hair would be thicker and black as well rather than dark brown and thin. Still, I think black hair with dip-dyed ends in blue would look a lot better than dark brown with blue. As I said before, dyeing hair blue in my house is a very taboo subject and should not be raised at any cost. A safer bet would be to dip-dye my hair red and then let it fade to pink and reapplying pink dye every now and then to continue the ruse.

I wouldn't mind having a little cat of my own, ideally something photogenic to make life interesting with big broody eyes and maybe a little bit of attitude to get me up in the mornings with a grumpy attitude. I guess I'm just in love with their shape and structure and the stylised nature of their face and ears. It's all very symmetrical and I've always taken that approach in my decorating and design if possible but it's not a large obsession of mine.

I love the charm and quirk behind this photograph- for someone to be able to look cool and edgy when sporting a very high cut fringe should be saluted in my book and I'm dying to see the rest of those dark circular shades. The black bow at the ponytail is a nice touch to the dark teal dyed hair of the girl and her shaped eyebrows which seem to naturally slant downwards in a mean stare. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a punk, dyeing my hair constantly and not caring about the feelings of my family, maybe a tattoo on the back of one of my legs... sounds expensive really.

A blue overload as it were, indulging in blue lipstick, eyeliner, hair as well as a collared shirt and against what may be a blue painted door. However, I suspect that a gel filter in front of the camera's flash has thrown a blue light over the entire photograph and produced an unnatural colour of the skin of the model. Still, it was a nice idea to match everything about the appearance and aesthetic of this photograph in blue chameleon-like tones.

I think blue is one of the more popular colours in terms of dip-dyeing for blonds; pink results in a very Barbie doll aesthetic that reeks of naivety but blue is cool calm and collected especially for this colour worn against a woolly brown fur coat and with snow in the background. I suspect it's going to be a while before I ever get to see snow again, or indeed when I get my hands on something fur or at least Mongolian lamb.

Slip dresses and vintage nightgowns from the 1960s have been a recent muse of mine so naturally seeing this modern combination of sheer and tulle makes me blood boil- but in a good way. It's rare to see hints of tulle around the skirt of a dress and for it to be done well, but for a dress to be featured in Vogue it must be beautiful to look at as well in terms of it's design and colour. I suppose the sheer white as well as soft colour of the blue/ lilac against such tan skin and black nails is a great contrast for a model with delicate features and honey brown hair.

Seeing such swirling textures and colours of varying blue, sea green and turquoise makes me think of the way everyone envisions the ocean rather than the dark and inky greatness you see swallowing at the edges of the sand beaches. The rolling of this material reminds me a lot of my American Apparel pleated skirt in a silky green fabric colour- it reminds me a lot of Ariel from the Little Mermaid and her Dark Green tail which would be in shimmering shades of dark sea green if she were real. But really, who's to say she's not real?

I love the colour matching and intensity of the make up shown here, for blue eyes framed by eyelashes clad in mascara as well as the eye pencil right through the eyebrows. It makes everything seem so surreal in this photograph, heightening the blue floral crown and goddess-like appeal of the bindi on her forehead and the curled hair with purple and many different shades of blue. It's a beautiful image for someone showcasing talents in terms of the beauty industry and even as a photographic project but I pose the question: who on Earth puts so much effort into their daily routine to look as well groomed and colour coordinated as she does?

When my cute little Lomography Fisheye finally gets sold on eBay I think I may farewell it and end the final roll of film I will put through it in a similar manner to this guy shown above and have it take some photographs of my top half. I have a lovely resin rose necklace in pink as well as a suitable blouse to match with it and I think the dreamy nature of the film and distorted lens can really bring them out their nature nicely.

Hairy Situation: Cool it!

I love the cute little piercing across her ear at the top, the bar one. Everything about this photograph is amazing, her profile is just so delicate and feminine but the piercings and blue hair suggests a toughness and a willingness to put up with pain. Her fly aways are also gorgeous and the sort of green tint at the roots of her hair. I think the most interesting people are the ones that are completely beautiful and stunning but they choose to get piercings and dye their hair great colours. Their is intrigue and mystery within that.

The morose expression and the edge of the collar of her top is my favourite. I'm guessing that her hair was once a brighter colour and also blue and the in between colour of the sea is an after effect. I very much doubt I would have the self-discipline to be able to maintain a full head of colour of say pink or blue hair since I know I can become very lazy with my appearance and may even forget altogether that I need to re-do it every now and then. Maybe that's what's great and popular about dip dye ends other than the fact how different it is and how your hair can escape total damage. You don't have to redo it that often and not use a whole bottle of hair dye.
When you have dip dyed hair and wear all black clothes and Doc Martens, you still seem to be so bright and to shine with dip dyed hair. I like the bright colour and her hair still looks soft and not dry. I could really go for that look, since a lot of my things within my wardrobe are black just because I prefer the shade as opposed to a specific colour when it comes to clothing. Purely accidental and not intentional. Sometimes people make remarks that I am wearing all black clothes but maybe if I had dip dyed ends I would look less like a punk and more like a hipster?
Beauty in motion. I love the contrast of her skin tone against her dip dyed ends and the framing of her face by her natural hair colour. That's what I like about dip dyeing - it's just that little bit rare huh but you can also see some contrast of natural beauty. Also, you don't have to really deal with the fact that your eyebrows don't match your hair colour since they will and you'll still have fantastic colour. Clever, ey? I really wish I could pull off a photograph like this, her neck and body and shoulders seem so naturally posed but her hair is flying up with an updraft from the wind. I'm really interested in how to create something like this myself.
Although you don't often see green dip dyed hair, this photograph and the mood created complements it so well. The green dip dyed hair is the icing on the cake, it's not bright but noticeable. Middle parts and long hair with dip dyed hair just looks so rad, I really love it and admire anyone able to pull it off with so much sass. Darkening over the eyes and what looks like worn off black lipstick in a graveyard wearing all black is fantastic.
You don't often see dyed ends with that much length and magnitude in terms of colour, maybe even the longest and therefore bluest Dip-dye I've seen? Her hair is already oh so long and her ends aren't bad at all which makes me feel even more jealous since that means she probably got a hair cute before she got it dyed. This is the sort of look I think I'd go for, maybe with less colour but the same length and without a front fringe. Just long hair and a middle part with maybe some pink or purple.

I really love the mixture of colours and the different shades created. Like a sassy, gorgeous My Little Pony but only better.

This is perfect- the mixture and swirling dyed hair in a bun and that shirt. I like how cooler colours have been used in contrast to the black lipstick and her pale skin tone. It makes it all so much brighter, magnificent and eye-catching. He fringe looks really good too, sort of blow dried into a puff shape and her shiny hair lets the colours really stand out. I must wonder though, what would her parents think? If they already weren't that way inclined...

Amazing colour and length as well as a soft woolly jumper in dark blue. There's another photograph floating around at the moment of a combination of black her with blue dye and the girl is holding (one of my favourites), the Diana camera. So from what I've seen from these two photographs about the combination of black hair with blue dye, it's such an incredible look although a lot of the photographs from this post include blonds wearing a cool coloured dye, there's something to be said about the contrast of the deepest black and a bright blue.
As lovely as

My Dad had one of the most metaphorically violent and explosive reactions I've ever gotten from him when I asked when I was ion Year 8, aged like fourteen or fifteen if I could dye part of my hair blue. He went on and raved how someone from his work had blue hair and how he was a druggie and a whole bunch of other shit. Sometimes they way he would say things and profusely reject my proposal, it was if I had already known all of that information and I had purposefully chosen to ask him to wind him up. Of course I was oblivious to the fact that there was a blue hair druggie at his work. But this is the reason I can never have a good relationship with my dad and dye any part of my hair blue, hence I am thinking of dip dyeing the ends a deep red and letting them fade of gradually dying them myself till they get pink. Then lie and merely say the dye had faded and I'm stuck with pink hair. Still though, I really like the way blue hair looks dip dyed, especially with black hair. But my hair isn't black, it's the deepest shade of brown often mistaken for black by ignorant and lazy sighted people.
