Deadly Ponies Hurrichain

After a few tidbits, leaks as well as previews from the Alice Euphemia website (a store located in the Cathedral Arcade in inner-city Melbourne today Deadly Ponies released through their Facebook their new A/W 2012 collection named Hurrichain which features muted tones of mushroom, magenta, navy as well as thick woolly fur. I had an inkling of what the collection had to bring and I was most impressed to see a magenta Mr Chain Gang Bag as well as more variations on the Mr Mail Man Bag, something I will not allow to escape my grasp this time. Although I am rather broke at the moment, I do feel confident enough to think I will own a piece from this collection but if I really start to rake it in. then maybe I can increase that to two pieces.

A stitched effect new to Deadly Ponies is quilting tried out in a variety of colours including black and brown and there's also the swirling tones of grey and flecks of the rainbow in this bag, dubbed Mr Futton complete with a neat little strap for the slinged look with the option of detaching it. There's a distinct night life appeal about this bag and while it is on the cheaper end of the Deadly Ponies spectrum, you can still expect to pay a few hundred dollars for some of the finest materials and ingredients money can buy.

Another cute and portably sized bag that's pint-sized but still full of fun is another bag that has been available for pre-order which I had previously clapped eyes on which was the Mr. Billy Box Bag which features this lovely contrast of deep, dark brown leather as well as natural fur in a lighter tone. It seems unfair to compare Mr Futton and Mr Billy Bag but I think I prefer to save myself for a bigger bag when it comes to fur/ goat skin and since Mr Futton is one of two bags of its print and exterior texture it may be one of the first to sell out to party hungry and slightly hung-over girls.

Furry and unusual, there's a lack of jewellery from the Deadly Ponies collection except for the curbchain necklace, bracelets and even ring named the Moss Chain collection for their textured appearance. I'm not sure if it's the quality from images shared on Facebook or whether the colour isn't as bold as it appeared once before but I'm still eager to see this jewellery in store and protected behind a glass case. I'm sitting on the fence with the jewellery part of the Hurrichain collection, I'm more accustomed to the fine jewellery in precious metals and using semi-precious stones at very high prices but if this newer range is more accessible for a poor student, well then I'm all for it.

I've been keen to get my hands on a satchel from Deadly Ponies for a while now and it appears that Mr Mailman is my best hope- there's the smaller size shown here and in this camel tone colour that's perfect for the street savvy university student with busy morning classes and eager to have the rest of the day to themselves. I think I was the most hopeful to see variations and new colours of this design of bag the most and since I have made the mistake of missing out in the past I will have to await the launch in March/ April for the bags in online stores across New Zealand in order to get my hands on the best coloured bag for the best price. 

Although Chanel doesn't specifically have an ownership over quilted effects for handbags, it's sort of unspoken that they do and any vintage bag will have the familiar rectangular shape as well as chain strap intertwined with leather. However the Mr Futton Sling Hobo Bag is in an entirely unique shape of it's own, with a thick shoulder strap as well as thick and plump, generous quilted diamonds.

Deadly Ponies have been making bags out of fine leathers from exotic animals such as deer for years now but it's in the Hurrichain collection they have finally engaged in the modern and electronic age, producing a laptop case. The structure seems a lot like their wallets- the key defining feature the flatness and lack of depth within the interior pocket. A week ago I would have had enough money to buy my own laptop but I'm relatively back to square one and a bit stuck for cash I'm afraid- the hazards of being a poor student with great taste in fashion. I have about a month to scrap together enough money to get a good laptop otherwise my hand will have to keep up with about ten lectures a week or my shoulder will have to get used to my father's eight year old, stone-age laptop.

It's interesting to track the amount of attention and positive feedback given about each bag from the Facebook release of the Hurrichainthere will be a few bits and pieces thrown on eBay at a time as well as saving my money for a bag from this new collection. Shown above is the Mr Book Large Satchel- it must be the handle at the top and sweet shade of brown, known as 'Barley' for this collection that attracts me. I could certainly use another satchel for my university endeavours and I have the perfect little Deadly Ponies Mr Lure key chain to attach to it...

One of the handbags I'm aching to get my hands on and itching to have in my possession is the Mr Chain Gang in Magenta with black and belted little strap if you so desire to sling it over your shoulder; and God knows that I will. I loved the imagination behind the design of this handbag in their last collection, but from the colours available: red, blue and black only the black had appeal about it to me and naturally sold out first of the colours. I had seen a second hand red Mr Chain Gang bag in red (lava) on eBay but at the time had no money and I'm sort of glad I did. I would much rather get my filthy mitts on a brand new Deadly Ponies bag in a great and gorgeous colour than something second hand and a bit more difficult to style.

I'm not sure what the fans of Deadly Ponies are more concerned about in terms of the pictures released for the collection, design or colour but I know I was most excited to see magenta coloured bags a part of this new collection and I'll definitely being trying to get my hands on as many feminine bags as I can. I already have a satchel of that colour but Deadly Ponies is too good to refuse and I've been trying to get my hands on one of their bags for years now. Above is the Mr Mini Fill N Zip with cute shoulder strap and matching chain in magenta to colour your dull and grey world- I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the real deal in store.

For those of us that enjoy a good rollicking trip to a music festival, a sweaty music gig and need to travel light and stealthy, look no further than the Mr Hutch Duffel shown here in 'Ghana' (dark brown) made of deer skin/ cow skin and complete with brass hardware. I can think of many a teenage girl who would be all over the style of this bag and the lightweight feel of it in her back, but may not be necessarily appreciative of the design and materials used in this bag. Still- it's utterly fabulous and chic and is pint-sized as well and while I have always wanted a great leather backpack I would say vintage Chanel on a good day will cost the same as Mr Hutch Duffel over here.

I love the imagination about the design of this bag, but I am a little dubious about it's practical nature and how to sling it over one's shoulder- I'm not a large fan of having my bag tucked underneath my armpit and having a strap dig into my arm but I suppose versatility in size, shape and colour is an important thing to consider in the fashion world in order to accommodate everyone's needs and personal preferences.As much as I love the colour combination of black and magenta as well as all the glorious pockets protected by brass hardware, I'm going to give this bag a miss; it's not to my own personal style really.

Because I'm a bit of a magenta enthusiast and I love low slinged bags with soft cushy structure and flowing lines I'm sure I will go into a type of insanity when I see the Deadly Ponies Mr Sling Hobo bag in the feminine shade of my choice combined with the black adjustable straps as well as familiar brass hardware. One of my great adorations about the Deadly Ponies line of bags is the generous amount of colours for each design in a collection as well as the variations in size- they're all perfect and unique spanning across handsome skins of animals and look classy and chic.

Mr Fill N Zip Fur comes with an alluring white stripe from the handle attachments, incorporating the handles and fur design as a continuation of one another. This cleverly creates flow and movement within the design of the bag, but I wonder just how big a discrepancy between the designs of the fur for this bag will be. After all, since each animal is unique and real animal skin and fur is used there will be variations from the picture shown here of the Mr Fill N Zip but I remain faithful and confident in Deadly Ponies keen eagerness for perfection when it comes to design as well as patterns for bag. Not yet have they steered me wrong.

The Moss Chain Bracelet which appear to come in Black, Silt and Magenta are unusual in their design for the obvious reason they are shaped like traditional curb link bracelets but appear to be covered in velour/ velvet earning them the nickname of 'moss'. In an earlier press release and magazine exert featured on the Deadly Ponies Facebook page the magenta Moss Chain bracelet had appear to have a much deeper, dark wine coloured luster to it so I will be eager to see if there are different photographs used for the Deadly Ponies online store as well as many other online New Zealand stores in order to find the true colour. I don't really like this washed out, dusty pink colour and if indeed there is a stronger purple shade about the magenta you can be assured I will wear that bracelet with pride.

The Mr Billy Messenger bag made me whip my forehead in relief that the lovely people behind each collection at Deadly Ponies had decided to bless the peasants with such a fabulous messenger style bag complete with the middle buckle strap across that thick and wonderful fur. I know for someone who aspired towards becoming a veterinarian that to see fur and animal skin used in such a way is extravagant and has affectation about it but I can't help but adore the natural materials, the shiny brass fixtures and the quality of the bags. It's not often the brand becomes available on eBay so your best to buy something new when it's hot off the press and enjoy it as much as you can and watch a little 'Sold Out' note be attached to that item.

Waiting List

Since I had received my final score for Year 12 that will allow me to get into my university of choice (hopefully) I've been treating myself here and there over the last month or so and have bought these five items which I am waiting to receive- the first is a vintage watch of a cat with moving eyes marking each second passing in yellow. I already have a Marc Jacobs guitar shaped watch but I have wanted to have a wall clock of a cat with moving eyes before and this is the perfect excuse to show if off. I fell in love with the brown leather straps and cartoon appearance, it was even better knowing this piece if one-of-a-kind and it's all mine as soon as it arrives in Australia from America.

Then there was my bulk order from the New Zealand website Good as Gold, I caved and finally found the best coloured fluffy Mr Lure key chain from Deadly Ponies in Peacock to update any satchel I decided to buy. Yesterday at my final shift of work I treated myself to a purple satchel and I think the clashing bright blue and purple may look good together if I choose to wear eclectic prints and colours. If not, I'll probably buy any other colour of the satchel I can get my filthy mitts on while my staff discount still applies. Since I wanted to get free postage I also convinced myself into getting a Stolen Girlfriends Club bow ring which I have been lusting after for years but since that particular piece is on back order my items will be delayed by a number of weeks till they get it in store. Luckily, I'm in no hurry.

I watched what I thought was the last of these Alexa Chung for Madewell sketched shirts go on eBay and their were a few excited bidders but after listing again the same item and in the same size I seized my opportunity. All good things come to those who wait it seems- I was able to get my shirt without any competition and payed the minimum amount possible for my limited edition sketch long-sleeve shirt featuring a disgruntled bride and the motto 'I'm Serious'. I can't wait till that piece comes.

I hadn't seen this resin brooch featured on another online store so after a day or two of humming and hawing I bought it yesterday before I headed off to work for what may be the last time- thinking to myself that I was just about to earn the money back anyway. Little did I know my store was full of gorgeous new goodies which I hadn't yet clapped eyes on and i would be spending money there as well. This is why I need a proper job- I've gotten so desperate for cash I have even resorted to applying to drop off catalogues in my local area. Even they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Deadly Ponies: Mr Mohawk Lure

After scoping out the Good as Gold online shop as well as Superette and Shop Acrimony, I have once again rekindled my love affair with Deadly Ponies accessories and in particular the cute key chain named Mr Lure. Mr Lure can also be known as Mr Mohawk and Mr Fluffy depending on the texture of the wool used for the bag charm. It's in the style of the iconic fox tail but without harming any animals.

What impresses my most about the key chain is the length and luxury it can add to a bag and instantly updates the look. There's a whole variety of colours; the varieties I'm most familiar with are black, white, grey, various shades of blue, red, purple and yellow. I've seen photographs of every colour except for red and it'd made all the more difficult when this is the first product to sell out online at the Deadly Ponies store.

The circular metal discs feature DP as well as the conjoined twin horse logo trademark to Deadly Ponies. The use of this artist sketch book showcases the texture of the wool used as well as the colour of the Bone or white Mr Lure Key chain which is usually shown on a white background for all photographs to be uniform but it looks as if there's nothing there. I stupidly let a Mr Lure key chain go when I saw it out eBay, but I can get it for a similar price at an online store to make up for it. It would look great with a suede bag and fringing.

Exclusive to Superette comes this magenta Deadly Ponies lure key chain- if I could buy it I gladly would but it's sadly not an option available at the moment. It must be unavailable, or worse, sold out. If you've kept up to date with my posts on Deadly Ponies then you must be aware that their 2012 collection features a lot of magenta and bright pink bags; maybe the launch of this Mr Lure will follow the official released of all their lovely bags still to come.

It's very tempting to use some of my Christmas money towards buying a Deadly Ponies Mr Mohawk lure key chain and while the bright blue of this particular lure seems very eccentric and hard to pair with a bag, I still have the firm belief that tan suede would match it well if you're leaning towards that Native American look. It may just be the lighting but it is a very light blue compared to the next two key chains; the grey colour may be more suited or waiting for yellow and magenta to show their sorry butts around the online market. With these popular pieces it really is first in best dressed so if I were to get a Mr Lure I should do it soon before they all sell out.

For those of us unable to afford a Deadly ponies bag, Mr Lure is a welcome addition and comes with a very accommodating price tag. Each bag charm has a sturdy brass hook and the uses the softest wool in a sensational range of colours. Be assured that you are paying the best for top-dollar-worthy products and expect to see more as Deadly Ponies continues to expand their empire.

Mr. Dipalopagus – Magenta

I've been an admirer of New Zealand label Deadly Ponies- for both their craftsmanship in their dealings with leather bags but also their range of exquisite silver jewellery. I've seen some of their hairy and woolly bags as a part of their Okapi Rider collection for 2011 launched but have yet to see their bright magenta coloured leather bags released in their online store. I'm so excited for the release of these bags and when I may be able to lay my hands on one- they often sell out quickly despite the high price tag but you are paying for some of the best designs available in high-quality leather. I'm not too fond of their blue and red coloured leather bags dubbed Peacock and Lava respectively but the bright magenta bags are sure to be a high with their female clientele- especially girls like my heading towards university!

 

Mr. Billy Box – Black

I love the cute shape in a sort of a pill box as well as the different hues of brown tinting the fur of this little sling bag. No expense has been spared, the strap across the body is leather as well, I can't be too sure as to whether the fur for this woolly bag is real. Your guess is as good as mine till further information is provided about this enigma collection and it's official launch occurs. One thing is certain- Deadly Ponies will have one customer in me! I will have worked for over 30 hours in retail by the time my next pay comes in and I do plan to save that money to bag myself a gorgeous leather hand bag in either a wild and woolly animal skin or bright magenta leather.

 

Mr. Fill n’ Zip Fur – Black

The striking white stripe on the hide of the bag fits perfectly and aligns with one of the straps of the bag. The double strap allows versatility when using on of these bags either clutching it over a wrist as a hand bag or slung across your shoulder for extra security. The gold coloured clasps are chic and go well with the natural and earthy tones of the leather and fur.

 

Mr. Mini Fill n’ Zip – Magenta

This satchel is just so extravagant and bright- perfect for colour blocking and making a statement. Amidst the rectangular panels on the side of the bag I also like the matching magenta chain for the straps which leads to a broad leather panel to feel comfortable when worn over the shoulder. If I'm brave enough and depending on the price tag and shading of the leather in person I may just walk down to Alice Euphemia in Melbourne and bag myself one of these gorgeous leather magenta bags, while fearing the wrath of what my mother would say. It was bad enough when I bough a fluorescent pink satchel.

 

Mr. Clapback Tote – Black

Slick- suave as well as hairy this final messenger satchel complete with shaggy fur would certainly add a touch of quirk to an evening ensemble. This is just a sneak preview of what Deadly Ponies have in store for their next collection so be sure to stay tuned for what other glorious surprises they have yet to spring on us.

Deadly Ponies Mr Rosette

 

Finally after a year of hard work, studying for more than thirty hours a week in addition to attending my classes in my final year of high school there has been the culmination of my hard work in four digit number which will then determine the university I will be able to attend next year. It feels so good- my startegy of choosing difficult subjects and doing hours of study payed off and I feel as if I deserve a little reward. 

Unfortunately I let the Mr. Rosette bag by Deadly Ponies get away from me a second time due to my dismissive and snivilling attitude of 'well, I doubt I'd ever use it, even if it is a spectacular design'. But the shape! The alluring and smooth black leather combined with a rosette motif to make me feel like I'm a winner and that I'm special. Rosette's are the perfect symbol of positive reinforcement to make you feel good, and after working twelve hours in retail as well as more than four basketball games I officiated within two days it'd be nice to bask in the glory of recieving a good ATAR score and making my family and friends proud of me.

I had my doubts about the size of the bag and it's detail as well as how comfortable it would feel against my body before I spotted this photograph in a google search. Oh how I wish I had seen this before the eBay auction had finished and I had snatched up the bag! It was less than $200, possibly $170 but for a Deadly Ponies bag which uses real leather in their bags, it is a snap and many premium brands have little wear to them when sold second hand on eBay. I prefer my bags to be able to be slung across my entire body and also beside my hip so I can hold it in my hands as well; for someone not exposed to bag-snatching I am quite wary of the danges of having a hand bag.

Still though, it'd be nice to attend boutiques opening nights of collections and up-market events with that slung around my body and a silk jacket and dress. Who am I kidding honestly? At my age I'm more concerned about working enough hours and my studies to be out and about the town covering events by my favourite stores in the city. I know in the end I have made the right choice since I don't have a lot of money behind my bank account at the moment but I can't help feel like I've missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Twice. This was the second listing on eBay for this bag from the same seller.

Blogger 'Susie Bubble' (Susanna Lau) from Style Bubble sporting a Deadly Ponies Mr Rosette Bag as well as tough combat boots and a layered mass of purple draped clothing. I've always admired the length as well as quality of posts from the Style Bubble, the photographs from when she visits stores showcasing their merchandise and her own quirky posts and styling. I believe she has been invited to Australian fashion week to cover collections from the nations top designers and brands.

Deadly Ponies Precious: Cat Bracelet

Deadly Ponies range of Jewellery, once again leaves me without breath. This art deco twist of red coral beads and a silver (or gold, take your pick) cat head charm in the centre is really something special. 

If I were to win the lottery it will definitely be on my hit list of wonderful things to get. The design is very basic and simplistic, at first glance it looks like something ordinary a mature aged woman would wear but the tiny cat head charm signature to the label makes it extra-ordinary. 

There's something wonderfully subversive about things that look old fashioned and a bit like they belong among your nana's old bras and things but are hip and cool. Design and recycling old designs into something new will never get old and tired.
